The clients brief for this particular landscape was to utilise every last bit of their relatively small available space transforming it into a fully usable living area with which they could both entertain and escape the stresses of everyday life. The only request the client’s had was for a water feature to be included in the design, but it needed to be low maintenance. This was a challenge the team at RB Landscapes really got excited about.
The front of the property has been transformed into a striking display of contrasting textures and varying shades of green, all highlighted by the use of lightly coloured limestone walling and steppers.
The area up the side of the property has been screened from the road through the use of timber screening to create the feeling of seclusion and privacy the client was hoping for. It was made functional with the installation of timber decking and an outdoor kitchen area complete with bench tops, sink, BBQ and custom built dining table. The inclusion of alternating bamboo and corten steel screens placed along the fence line add to that sense of seclusion by screening the area from the neighbouring property. The corten screens not only serve the obvious purpose of screening but also double as a subtle water feature. Water is fed from a bladder style water tank stored underneath the deck up through to the top of the corten screens where it then trickles down the face and into a trough at the base where it is returned to the holding tank below. This makes for a low maintenance water feature that never runs dry and has very little exposed bodies of water to become contaminated with algae or other undesirables.
